[art masterpost] fic: Caught in the Middle

cover art!

"Every day, before he's even fully awake enough to remember, before he makes the bed with military precision and goes about his morning routine, Steve gets a feeling of wrongness.

Like he's missing something. Like's something's missing him.

Like he's not where he's meant to be."

" Just for a moment, everything stops. Crushed right up against the enemy, Steve is close enough to feel the momentary freeze of every muscle in Loki's body as he notices Thor over Steve's shoulder, close enough to hear the murmured “Brother...”. "

" The mid-morning sun is bright and clear as it reflects off windows and car roofs and bike frames, and Steve is feeling happier than he has in a long while. Thor is dragging him along, peering into shop windows and booming out his views on how strange life is here, and does Steve have any idea where they could buy poptarts - “that most noble Midgardian invention”.
Steve, on the other hand, is looking around, content to be dragged, letting this twenty-first century life wash over him. "

Woot! Hot damn, I love how you lay down colour. The bush work on the top one and Loki's helmet is fascinating. Is this digital? If so, what is your technique?

oh gosh, thanks a bunch! um, yes it is digital- ... I don't really have a.. a 'formal' (I guess?) technique or I don't really know what you mean by 'technique' - um, but I use SAI Painter and Photoshop to draw..
um, I guess that isn't very helpful- I used photos for reference while painting um
..ahh-
really, I'm still an amateur at this and these were really rushed, but I'm glad you like it!

This is really nicely done! I love your coloring. My favourite pic is Loki. Kust love the way you color his eyes and his helmet! :D

I guess what I am most interested is some information about how you use your brushes, such as what type and opacity, etc. if you are willing to share. I really like the results.
marcymmartianchild on May 18th, 2012 02:28 am (UTC)
um, I just use the default brushes that are already set in the program. most of the time I use the Rough - Flat tip brush preset, or just the regular round brush....

as for opacity, in SAI I would keep it on all the way, since the brush tool already blends as you overlap your brush strokes.

um, for Photoshop which I use sometimes too, I usually just keep the opacity at a lower number, around 25-45 percent.. it's tedious but it makes the colors more gradual..?

if you're just starting off, you should definitely experiment and just play around to get different results, and to see which one's good for you! I'm sorry if I couldn't be of much info- I'm definitely not a professional in digital painting >
